Throughout history, God has given examples of revealing himself to mankind. Many times, God did so through coaching, mentoring, and training man in a relationship with him. Whenever God and man were interacting with one another, there was always examples distinguishing carnality and mortality from spirituality and immortality. There were always signs. As a result of relationships like these formed between God and man, man’s identity and destiny were in many ways, also revealed. Take for example, Moses.
God developed Moses’ character and increased Moses’ self-confidence by interacting and responding with Moses in a relationship. Through this series of encounters and interactions, a relationship was ultimately formed that delivered the people of Israel out of 430 years of slavery. (Exodus 12:40) Today, we are heirs of God, joint-heirs with Christ and we celebrate and keep the Passover to honor God who brought them out of Egypt for the generations to come. Through these former generations, Jesus was brought not just to the Jews, but also to us who are considered Gentiles. Thus, we live in, appreciate, and thrive off the significance of the Passover today. As if the Passover wasn’t enough, we also have the personal relationship that God formed with Moses. From it, we catch a glimpse of God’s willingness to hear us, have compassion on us, and interact with us today – for those who will hear, receive, and respond to God’s voice and calling. Through this example of a powerful thriving relationship, God became I AM to Moses and to us. And Moses became a Prophet, Friend of God, and Deliverer to God’s people, as well as a powerful example for us.
- Exodus 3:14: God shows us a powerful example by responding and interacting to Moses’ questions: What shall I say to the people when I tell them the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob sent me to deliver you from slavery, and they ask what is His name? Who shall I tell them? God replied, “Tell them, I AM sent me. I AM who I said I AM.”
- Exodus 4:1-9: God shows us a powerful example by giving Moses the voice of the signs. Then the Lord said, “If they do not believe you or pay attention to the first sign, they may believe the second. 9 But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground.”
- Exodus 4:10: God shows us a powerful example by responding and interacting to Moses’ feelings of inadequacy: Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”
These were all examples of God showing Himself before when men cried out to God in bondage, and worshipped God in tabernacles made with hands. Today, Christ has exemplified God with man, and we are the temples. So how much more is God hearing us, having compassion, and moving through the power that is within us – fully interacting with us through His Spirit in ours.
